Last night I attended a get together organised by Jason Hadlow, the Chairman of Yarm Town Council. It was attended by Conservatives from across Yarm and was a pleasant opportunity to catch up and to discuss recent developments in the town.

David Cameron visits Stockton South
Yesterday David Cameron came to Stockton South to visit a local manufacturer and discuss the economic challenges we face. I was pleased to have the opportunity to take David to visit a local company and meet a number of local businesspeople. The Gazette have covered the visit:

Stockton Borough Council
Earlier this afternoon I met Ken Lupton, the Leader of Stockton Borough Council, to discuss a number of issues which have arisen recently. It was a useful opportunity to hear his views and to get a better understanding of some of the current challenges faced by the Borough. I do not shy away from criticising the Council when they get things wrong but equally they deserve praise when they get them right. It will be interesting to see how the budget develops over the coming year with all the added financial pressures brought by economic troubles.

First Party event of 2009
Last night I attended a fundraiser for Stockton Conservatives, held at Wynyard Hall (www.wynyardhall.co.uk). Wynyard is a wonderful venue and it was extremely well attended. Over 100 guests enjoyed a drinks reception and meal, followed by speeches about our work over the past year and plans for the year ahead. In these difficult economic times Wynyard seems to be doing extremely well as a business, which will come as little surprise to anyone who has been. It was great to see so many Party members and supporters from across Stockton South as well as all the new faces who have joined us in the past year.
