Election planning

Last night I met with the people who are going to make up our local campaign team for the General Election.   I still anticipate the election will be in May next year, but with the government in such a dire position and the persistent rumours about Gordon Browns future we need to be ready whenever it happens.  It was an extremely constructive meeting and plans are now well advanced so that when the government does eventually push the button Stockton South Conservatives can hit the ground running.

One North East

I attended the One North East annual briefing in Durham.  It was interesting to hear about some of the work they have done over the past 12 months and their thoughts going forward.  The next 12 months will be a challenging time for our region, with the fallout from recession having a lasting impact.  It is vital though that we sieze the opportunities this presents to secure the best possible future for our local economy.  The Leader and Chief Executive of Stockton Borough Council were also in attendance, amongst many other representatives from across the region.

Well done Stockton Borough Council!

Stockton Council have decided to count the votes for the General Election on the Thursday night.  It had been suggested that they would like to count on Friday morning and a consultation was undertaken with this in mind.  Full marks to them for listening and making the right decision.

Kirklevington Fete

This afternoon, following the Riding of The Fair in Yarm, I attended the village fete in Kirklevington Village Hall.  It was well attended and I must admit I bought a few more cakes and jars of jam than I should have!  It was good to receive such a positive response from residents when going round, with many commenting that they receive our regular intouch newsletters and how good it is that we have been active in the local community all year round, rather than just turning up at election time.
