Ive been in Israel this past week, seeing first hand the problems faced in the Middle East and being briefed on the developing situation. I often get emails from constituents who are concerned about the ongoing Israel-Palestinian issue and it was good to get a broader view to better understand the tensions. The trip was, of course, not funded by the taxpayer!

Red Cross
I attended the official opening of the new Red Cross building on Thornaby Place. This service is a great example of the Big Society in action and it was encouraging to see so many people had come along in support.

Politics Show, SBC and Business
I started early this morning to film a short interview for Vela, the new housing association taking over Council stock in Stockton. Afterwards I have a meeting with the Leader of Stockton Borough Council, Ken Lupton, and then constituency surgeries. In the afternoon I visited Business & Enterprise North East in Seaham before recording this Sunday’s Politics Show in Newcastle.

Spinal Support Group
This morning I attended North Tees Hospital to visit the Spinal Support Group. This excellent group supports patients both before and after surgery.
Afterwards I was interviewed for Tyne Tees News in Yarm.

Constituency work
A busy day, starting with a meeting with Cleveland Police about their plans for dealing with spending reductions – they believe it can be done with no impact on front line services. Afterwards I attended Stockton Riverside College for Apprentice week and met with apprentices there as well as staff and other students. In the afternoon I visited an industrial estate in Durham to see how things are being done there and then held a constituency surgery in Hartburn.
