Full week

A busy week, including attending President Obama’s speech to Parliament and my calling for Thornaby Town Hall to be given to the people of the town. On Friday I held a number of surgeries, both and the office and later in Yarm library. I also visited a new organisation which aims to help young people into employment in Stockton.

Yarm Parking

This morning I was in the office dealing with a range of issue and in the afternoon I attended a meeting in Yarm to discuss the ongoing parking problems there.

I also spoke with a number of residents about my call for Thornaby Town Hall to be given back to the people of the town.

Sugeries

A busy day of surgeries, with a number of constituents at the office through the morning and early afternoon and then a community surgery at Tesco in Ingleby Barwick.  We were scheduled to run from 4-5 at Ingleby but there was so much interested I didn’t eventually leave until well after 6pm.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who supported their local Conservative candidates in last week’s election and voted No to AV.

The AV result in Stockton was a landslide for no, with 75% voting against a change in the system we use for electing our MPs.  At Council level I was sad to see Phillip and Aidan, two great councillors, narrowly lose out in Grangefield but delighted that Phil Dennis took a seat from the Lib Dems in Eaglescliffe.  This is a huge achievement and Phil will be an excellent councillor.

In other wards the Conservative councillors did well, holding Hartburn and Fairfield and getting a great result in Yarm, including a big vote of confidence in the Conservative Town Councillors who have done so much in recent years.

Across Stockton South Conservatives got more votes than Labour with the final tallies (average votes in each ward added together) Conservative 9473, Lab 9079, Lib Dem 3627, Others 7929.
